Despite Maxine Waters’ elevated profile following the election of Donald Trump, the Democrat Congresswoman is in financial despair. Campaign filings reveal Waters received a paltry $22,000 in individual contributions this year, and owes her daughter $100,000 for political mailer services.
The Washington Free Beacon reports:
Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif.), who has been considered a leader of the movement within Congress to “resist” Donald Trump, has received a little more than $20,000 in individual contributions to her campaign so far this year despite her elevated profile.
Waters is also $100,000 in debt to her daughter, who runs a lucrative endorsement mailer operation for the campaign, filingsshow.
Citizens for Waters, Rep. Waters’ campaign committee, reported receiving just $12,600 individual contributions throughout the second quarter, which runs between April 1 and June 30. During the first quarter, which spans from Jan. 1 to March 31, the campaign reported $9,508.79 in individual contributions. Waters has now pulled in just $22,108.79 in total individual contributions.
The campaign has compensated for the low amount of individual contributions by pulling in six figures from political action committees. The campaign reported $2,500 from PACs during the first quarter and $99,500 during the second quarter.
Rep. Waters’ campaign now has $193,714.02 cash on hand and debts totaling $128,748.12. A majority of the debt is owed to Karen Waters, the daughter of Maxine Waters.
The lack of political contributions might be contributed to recent reports that Maxine Waters doesn’t even live in her own district.
Truth Revolt reports:
Maxine Waters does not live in the district she represents in Congress, which caused one of her political rivals, Republican Omar Navarro, to hold a press conference in front of her mansion. Inexplicably, he was accompanied by a mariachi band (hey, this is 2017; nothing in politics surprises me anymore.)
Additionally, posters have popped up all over Inglewood and Hancock Park that call the member of Congress a “Poverty Pimp.” “N-ggas better have my money!” is repeated in the background of the posters that feature Waters with dollar signs as eyes:
Waters has been on the forefront of the Impeach Trump movement, though she sometimes was erratic at best. Navarro said that his opponent, “obviously lives outside the district, and that’s a representation of who she is and who she’s serving. She’s not representing the interests of her own district… People are homeless in Los Angeles, while this person right here [gestures to Waters’ home] is out of touch with what’s going on in society.”
